Interior Design Tips for your Home

  •  Painting closets white provides a neutral background for clothes and allows for easier selection.
  • When using a fun pattern on your wall try and keep the curtains, flooring and furniture a solid or simple texture. Using different patterns on both could cause it to look too busy.

  • Lay tile or flooring at a 45 degree angle. This will make your room look larger and more visually interesting. Also, try this technique on your kitchen or bathroom backsplash.
  • when selecting paint colour for walls, consider the colour's on your large furniture pieces in your room.  The tone-on-tone colour gives your room a cohesive look.
  • Hang curtains or drapes as high above the top of the window and as close to the ceiling as possible. This will add vertical height and draw your eye upwards.
  • Use neutrals such as white and off-white in your bathroom to prevent lighting from reflecting colour onto you. This is more important near the mirror and makeup area.

  • Add an assortment of items on a bookshelves to create visual interest including picture frames and accessories.  Treat books as home decor pieces and incorporate them in with your accessories.

Wall Decor

Hallway Gallery - I love this idea ! Who doesn't have hundreds of photo's that hold special memories in each ? This is such a great idea for someone with a photography passion or who has traveled the world.  You can be constantly swapping out the photos , so there is always something new to look at.
tip: try adding in some fun wooden letters

Powerful Print - Choose a piece of art that you really connect with. You might have painted the work of art yourself , or you simply might be deeply attracted to it.
tip: try looking at flea markets for that one of a kind piece

Picture Collage - Arrange family photos , quotes , prints and postcards to make an appealing composition
tip: try mix-matching the size and pattern of the frame

Get Crafty - go out to your closet home depot and grab some different sized / patterned ceiling medallions and paint them in a fun pop of colour.

Bedroom - Make it more personal and intimate by adding personal photos. Try placing perfumes and different vases to make your space more comfortable

Bathroom- In this space it is all about practicality , keep your essentials neatly organized on one portion of the countertop. tip: try using a tray to hold your products

Entry Way - Keep it simple with only books , mirrors , photos or a stylish bowl to hold your keys and loose change. Adding fresh flowers immediately makes you feel welcome and happy !

Bathroom Inspiration

You may think the designing of a bathroom would be rather simple , considering the general small size.  While in fact, the bathroom can be quite a challenge seeing as you have to really consider the materials you will be using.  Can they withstand splashing water , moisture and can they be easily cleaned ? Those are only some of the questions you need to ask yourself.
Adding a fun shower curtain to a rather plain bathroom can be a very easy and affordable way to redecorate.  In an incredibly small bathroom (pictured above) , you can use a shower curtain with bold horizontal stripes , giving you an illusion of a bigger room.
